Copycat York Peppermint Patties

This is one of those homemade goodies that makes a great gift.  It made me very happy to find this recipe.  Love peppermint patties and should make a gift for myself.

The Best Way to Make Lasagne

There are so many ways I've seen people make lasagne.  I make mine the way my nana did, much like Jim of Sip and Feast does.  The differences are . . . I make little bite sized meatballs made with beef and pork, and I make italian sausage and cut it up in small bite size pieces . . . pure ricotta goes in by the spoonful in all layers and I use a lot since I love it.  And I love chunky lasagne.

Mini Cherry Cheesecakes

These mini cheesecakes are the perfect dessert for parties, especially a buffet table.  They are festive and delicious!  Cheesecakes are one of my favorite things.

The Best Chicken Fried Steak

One of my favorite meals.  I need to make it myself instead of ordering Door Dash at least once a week from Cracker Barrel.  Really, as much as I love cooking, I hate cooking for one for certain meals.

This recipe sounds relatively easy to make and All Recipes has excellent instructions with photos and even a video.

Chicken Alfredo Rice Casserole

Chicken Alfredo sauce sounds awesome.  I would love to try this recipe, however, there was a discussion in the comments about minute rice.  I hate minute rice, but love white rice.  What I would do is make more sauce . . . maybe on the side?

The recipes from All Recipes are usually pretty good since they are tested before posted.  This recipe is probably no exception.  My problem with it is minute rice, but it sounds delicious.

Hawaiian Sliders

My recipe was originally posted in December 2013 and I thought it is worth updating.

It has been years since I have made these delicious sliders.  See my following comments for our suggested changes.  We never made them again, so I don't know if the changes would make them better.

I found this recipe at one of my favorite websites, Everyday Cheapsake and she has the exact same recipe.  Mary's page includes her instructions and comments from other readers.  I suggest reading my comments and compare to her page.  You may not want to make my suggested changes, the choice is yours!  Click here to go to Mary's page.

These little sliders are awesome!  We got to try them at a party and honestly, I could not get enough, but didn't want to make a pig of myself when there were so many other things to eat.  They went fast anyway!  Guess you could say they were the star of the show.

The ones we had were overstuffed with ham and cheese (maybe double of what the recipe calls for), which made them even better, but the topping is what makes it so special with a blend of delicious tangy sweetness.  The crunchiness resulting from the sauce baked on the bread was also very nice. Outstanding!

I would love to make some with smoked turkey and swiss cheese too.

Not only did they make the perfect appetizer, they would be great for a quick lunch with some chips.

Awesome discovery!

UPDATE:  We have made these sliders twice and propose the following changes:  No onion.  Cut the sauce recipe in half.  For some reason, our sliders did not come out crispy, but somewhat soggy.  We added 10 minutes to the baking time in the oven uncovered . . . it still wasn't enough time to make them crunchy enough for our taste.  Next time we will bake them 20 minutes covered and 15 minutes uncovered.

We love this recipe and will continue to tweak it until they are perfect for our taste.  I must say that the sauce is awesome, like a sweet barbeque sauce, and would be great with some shredded chicken in place of ham and cheese.

I really can't say where this recipe originated since it has been posted all over the place.  It is like, what came first, the chicken or the egg?

Ingredients

    • 1 package Original Hawaiian 12-pack dinner rolls
    • 1 small sweet white onion, minced or grated
    • ½ cup (1 stick) butter
    • 3 tablespoons Dijon-style mustard
    • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
    • 3 teaspoons poppy seeds
    • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
    • 1 package deli sandwich ham, cut into 12 small squares
    • 6 slices Swiss cheese, each cut in half

Instructions

Melt butter in a small skillet over medium high heat. Add onion, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, poppy seeds and brown sugar. Allow to sauté for a few minutes, until onions are translucent and tender. Remove from the stove.

Cut the rolls in half horizontally, removing the tops and placing the bottoms on a foil-lined baking sheet. Place a spoonful of sauce on each roll, followed by a slice of ham and piece of cheese. Place a roll top on each.

Move the sliders closely together. Slowly pour the remaining sauce right over the tops of these small beauties.

Cover with aluminum foil and allow to sit for 10 minutes. Bake at 350F or place on an outdoor grill over low heat, for 20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted. Uncover and bake for another two minutes until the tops are slightly browned and crisp. Serve immediately.

Is it safe to line the oven with foil

I have always lined my oven with foil.  It is something I learned from my nana, so I did it too.  I'm sure you did too.

Click here to go to an article from Southern Living that discusses the use of foil in the oven.  It also gives other uses for foil in the kitchen.  Very interesting and informative article.

Turkey Pot Pie Pockets

Love this recipe!  These pot pie pockets are perfect for freezer meals that are quick and easy  Would be an awesome snack.

When you have leftovers after a big turkey meal, make these pot pie pockets for a different type of leftover meals.  The cream cheese and puff pastry make it very interesting to me.  Puff pastry makes it so easy.  You can substitute turkey with chicken or pork.

Marry Me Chicken Pot Pie

This is the best chicken pot pie recipe I have seen.

Like every other chicken pot pie recipe, you can make variations to include your preferred ingredients.  I would add mushrooms and leave out the spinach.

Cheesy Chicken Noodle Casserole

Loving the chicken casseroles I have been finding.

These recipes are perfect for leftover chicken or turkey.

Since I am now cooking for one, I rarely make chicken because it is cheaper and easier to buy a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store.  Good idea to use with this recipe.

Butter Cream Chicken

This rechipe is one of the first I am going to try.  That gravy over mashed potatoes or rice would be perfect.  I've never used ritz crackers as a coating for the chicken, but I would love to try it out.

Bobby's Goulash

I've never had goulash, but this recipe reminds me of chili mac without the beans.  Love one pot meals!

The reviews of this recipe were mixed about the seasonings. Many said they would not use as much salt the next time they made it.  I suggest adding the seasonings a little at a time, tasting each time.

This recipe is from Paula Deen, one of many awesome recipes you have to check out on her website.  Southern recipes at their best!  Click here to go to the recipe page.
